Dominican Republic and Honduras strengthen economic and trade ties

In the Dominican Republic, Lucile Houellemont Jimenes, president of the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce, reported significant economic growth, noting that nearly 18,000 new companies were created in the first half of 2026. Exports reached USD 9,277 million in the first seven months of the year, a 12% increase compared to 2025. President Luis Abinader has emphasized port modernization as a key driver for the nation's goal to become a regional logistics hub.

Simultaneously, Honduras and the Dominican Republic are working to strengthen bilateral ties. The fourth Export, Import, Investment, and Tourism Business Forum was held in Tegucigalpa to expand trade, attract investment, and foster tourism cooperation. This initiative is supported by the presidents of both nations, Luis Abinader and Nasry Asfura.

In Honduras, President Nasry Asfura announced several domestic measures, including the submission of anti-corruption and anti-bribery legislation to Congress, a plan to tender 600 megawatts of energy, and the continuation of fuel subsidies to mitigate international price volatility. Additionally, the Honduran government is working to reduce debt to energy generators and address medical sector payments.
