Honduras reports four dengue deaths in 2026

Honduras' Secretariat of Health has reported four deaths related to dengue fever so far in 2026. The most recent fatality involved a 28-year-old man from the Distrito Central, who passed away in a private hospital on Tuesday morning.

While the death is being treated as a suspected case pending laboratory confirmation, health officials noted an increase in dengue cases across the country, including rising infection rates in the Cortés department. Dr. Odalys García, head of the Expanded Program on Immunization, stated that while the country is not currently facing an epidemic, the situation requires heightened vigilance.

Authorities are urging the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, particularly in containers used to store water due to challenges with potable water access. Officials emphasized that prevention is a shared responsibility between local governments and families to ensure water storage containers, such as barrels and tanks, remain tightly covered.
