Honduras reports high drunk driving sanctions as Bucaramanga utilities face resignations
In Honduras, the National Directorate of Roads and Transport (DNVT) reported that over 17,000 drivers have been sanctioned for driving under the influence of alcohol. Director Lenin Morel noted a concerning link between substance use and road fatalities, stating that out of 477 autopsies conducted on traffic accident victims in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula this year, 202 showed evidence of alcohol or drugs.
During the first half of the year, 41 individuals were referred to the Public Ministry for involuntary manslaughter, and over 80 faced referrals for involuntary injury. Current penalties include a fine equivalent to one minimum wage and a six-month license suspension. Authorities expressed concern regarding drivers who continue to operate vehicles despite suspended licenses.
In Colombia, Bucaramanga is experiencing a wave of resignations within its public utility companies. The managers of the Acueducto de Bucaramanga (amb) and the Empresa Pública de Alcantarillado de Santander (Empas) have stepped down. Juan Carlos Suárez Muñoz will depart from his role at amb on October 16, following previous departures of the board president and a former director.
