Honduras secures $225 million concessional loans from World Bank and IDB

The Honduran Congress approved two new concessional loans totaling $225 million. The first, a $125 million loan from the International Development Association (AIF) of the World Bank, was signed on 16 June. It carries a 25‑year term, a 1 % annual interest rate, and a five‑year grace period, and will fund fiscal modernization, transparency, climate‑related sustainability and inclusive growth programs. The second loan, $100 million from the Inter‑American Development Bank (IDB), was contracted on 18 June with a fixed 0.25 % interest rate and will support fiscal strengthening and inclusive economic growth. The loans were approved without the usual two‑debate procedure, citing their low‑interest, long‑term nature. Deputy Mario Pérez noted that the first $60 million will be repaid in the sixth year, with the remainder spread over 40 years in a single payment.
