Honduras seizes over one ton of cocaine in Yoro tanker truck operation
Honduran security forces intercepted a tanker truck in the Yoro department, suspected of transporting narcotics. The vehicle was taken into custody by the Dirección Nacional de Fuerzas Especiales (DNFE) TIGRES for forensic examination to determine the exact nature and quantity of the substances inside.
Security Secretary Gerson Velásquez reported that the operation in El Progreso resulted in the seizure of 65 bundles of cocaine hidden within the tanker. The shipment originated from the Atlántida department and was allegedly destined for the Guatemala border. During the interception, authorities captured the truck driver and two other men who were using a separate vehicle to escort the heavy transport.
In addition to the narcotics, officials seized at least four automatic weapons and several magazines. This seizure is part of a broader trend in the region; Velásquez noted that more than three tons of cocaine have been seized during the current administration, as criminal structures shift routes in response to increased maritime interdiction in the Caribbean and Pacific.
