Hone Health survey reveals lack of perimenopause awareness

An October 2026 survey by Hone Health indicates that 70% of women were unable to recognize or were uncertain if their symptoms were related to perimenopause. Additionally, 8% of respondents reported they were unaware of what perimenopause was.

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading to menopause, typically lasting between 4 and 8 years, though it can extend to 15 years or more. Symptoms resulting from fluctuating sex hormones include anxiety, sleep disturbances, joint pain, and unexplained weight gain.

According to the survey, more than 55% of respondents experienced symptoms before age 45, with 26% noticing changes in their 30s. This occurs well before the average U.S. menopause age of 50–52. Approximately 10% of women delayed seeking medical treatment because they believed they were too young or because they still maintained regular menstrual cycles.
