Honeywell Aerospace implements thermal management technology at Equinix facility
Honeywell Aerospace has announced that Equinix has tested and installed its Thermal Response Module (TRM) at the Equinix Co-Innovation Facility in Ashburn, Virginia. The technology, originally designed for aerospace and defense, is being applied to the data center market to address the high-density heat loads associated with AI infrastructure.
The TRM functions as a thermal buffer, utilizing proprietary phase-change materials to maintain stable coolant temperatures during power disturbances or rapid changes in computing demand. This helps prevent performance throttling and protects high-value hardware, such as graphics processing units (GPUs), from damage caused by cooling fluctuations.
Designed as a turnkey, drop-in solution, the module integrates into existing cooling loops between the coolant distribution unit and servers without requiring infrastructure redesign. It is compatible with various CDU vendors and architectures. This deployment comes as the liquid cooling market for data centers is projected to grow at an annual rate of 20% over the next five years.
