Honeywell deploys industrial AI at Dangote Refinery in Nigeria

Honeywell Technologies has launched its Forge Plant Cognition industrial AI platform at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki, Nigeria. This deployment marks the global debut of the platform, which integrates Honeywell’s process engineering expertise with computing infrastructure from Dell Technologies and artificial intelligence capabilities from NVIDIA.

The platform is designed to analyze real-time operating data, identify production constraints, and detect equipment anomalies to improve throughput and reliability. Honeywell estimates that the technology could deliver operational benefits exceeding $0.29 per barrel. At the refinery’s full capacity, these preliminary estimates suggest potential annual gross operational benefits of more than $60 million.

The deployment coincides with Dangote’s efforts to expand the facility’s capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028. While the projected financial gains are significant, Honeywell noted that these figures are preliminary, facility-specific, and not guaranteed, as actual results depend on variables such as crude selection, data quality, and implementation efficiency.
