Honfleur implements heritage preservation strategy for historic buildings
The city of Honfleur has launched a comprehensive strategy to protect and restore its historic built heritage following structural issues at several buildings on Quai Sainte-Catherine. The initiative follows emergency consolidation work required for buildings at 36, 38, and 40 Quai Sainte-Catherine, which faced advanced danger and collapse risks due to owner negligence. This intervention was supported by the French State and the Ministry of Culture.
A large-scale heritage study, funded by the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC), will now focus on the buildings surrounding the Old Basin. Led by Chief Architect of Historical Monuments Charlotte Hubert, a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, historians, and archaeologists will conduct 3D surveys and structural diagnostics on 51 buildings covering 102 addresses to better understand and preserve the area's architectural wealth.
