Hong Ji-sun pledges balanced development and rapid housing supply

Hong Ji-sun, the nominee for Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, has outlined his primary policy goals following his nomination by President Lee Jae-myung. During his first day at the Government Complex Sejong, Hong emphasized that national balanced development and closing the gap in regional transportation infrastructure are his top priorities.

Regarding housing, Hong pledged to accelerate the supply of high-quality housing in preferred locations, with a specific focus on ensuring stability for youth and newlyweds. He stressed the importance of consistent and predictable policies and noted that close cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government is essential to ensure that housing supply measures are effectively implemented from construction through to occupancy.

On transportation, Hong announced that the 5th National Railway Network Plan, the road network plan, and the airport development plan are currently undergoing cost-benefit analysis and consultation with fiscal authorities. He expects these plans to be finalized around November, following public hearings scheduled for September and October.

Hong, a former official in Gyeonggi Province, intends to leverage his extensive field experience to facilitate communication between the central government and local authorities to ensure policies function effectively on the ground.
