Hong Kong actress Angela Yuen exposes sexual harassment in media industry

Hong Kong actress Angela Yuen has released a lengthy social media post detailing experiences of sexual harassment and systemic misogyny within the entertainment and cultural sectors. Yuen recounted an incident during a press interview for the film ‘Esports Girls,’ where a senior male journalist and magazine editor made inappropriate sexual jokes, comparing the interview setting to a hostess club. Although Yuen demanded an apology at the time, the journalist failed to provide one.

Yuen also disclosed other instances of misconduct throughout her career, including being objectified by directors and experiencing non-consensual physical contact from a male actor on set. She criticized the industry for a culture that often blames victims and trivializes harassment as ‘small jokes.’

Following the public outcry, the journalist involved issued an apology on social media, admitting his comments were inappropriate and expressing regret for failing to apologize immediately during the interview. Yuen stated that her intention is not to target specific individuals for public judgment, but to highlight the widespread nature of such behavior across various industries.
