Hong Kong advances housing policies and Simplified Public Housing completion
Hong Kong is advancing several housing initiatives aimed at increasing resource circulation and meeting demand. The Housing Authority has introduced new schemes for subsidized sale flats, including a rental plan for White Form applicants and a housing exchange scheme for elderly owners. These measures allow owners to generate cash flow through rentals or facilitate downsizing, while providing more affordable options for middle-income families and elderly residents.
Additionally, Secretary for Housing Ho Wing-yin announced that all 30,000 Simplified Public Housing units are expected to be completed by the end of March next year. Regarding the Northern Metropolis development, the proportion of subsidized sale flats of 45 square meters or larger will increase from 20% to 25%. While the government will not set a rigid per-capita living space standard, the long-term goal is to increase unit sizes by 10% by the 2031/32 fiscal year to improve living conditions.
