Hong Kong and Macau donate 9.35 million euros for Tibet flood relief

Hong Kong and Macau have announced a combined donation of approximately 9.35 million euros to support relief efforts in Tibet following a devastating flash flood. The flood, which struck the border region between Nepal and Tibet, has resulted in at least 633 deaths according to Nepalese authorities.

In Hong Kong, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has directed the Disaster Relief Fund to open applications for “emergency aid projects,” reserving 50 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately 5.5 million euros) for these initiatives. Lee expressed condolences to the victims and praised frontline rescuers for their efforts despite the risk of secondary disasters.

Macau’s government has pledged 30 million yuan (approximately 3.85 million euros) through the Macau Foundation to assist with rescue operations and post-disaster assistance. The humanitarian response follows reports of rising danger as a natural dam formed by mud and rocks began to overflow, threatening ongoing rescue operations.
