Hong Kong and Shanghai advance digital economy through data and AI initiatives
Hong Kong and Shanghai are advancing digital economy cooperation through major technology and data innovation initiatives. The Hong Kong/Shanghai Co-operation Open Data Challenge 2026 recently concluded in Shanghai, where Hong Kong teams secured multiple awards. Notable winning projects included a digital underground pipeline information system designed to improve construction safety and efficiency, and a cross-border autonomous driving data service platform aimed at enhancing road safety for mainland drivers entering Hong Kong.
Simultaneously, the 2026 Digital Entertainment Leaders Forum (DELF) opened at Cyberport in Hong Kong. The forum focuses on how artificial intelligence and immersive technologies are reshaping the cultural and creative industries. The event features showcases of AI-driven animation, robotics, and smart fashion. During the forum, Cyberport signed Memorandums of Understanding with Alibaba Cloud, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and Hong Kong Shu-Yan University to foster talent cultivation and support startups in AI, blockchain, and emerging technologies.
