Hong Kong animal rescue founder killed in dog attack

Wong Cho-yee, the 33-year-old founder and sole manager of an animal rescue station in Ping Yeung, Ta Kwu Ling, Hong Kong, died following an attack by a dog at the facility on August 21.

Security footage shows the incident occurred around 2:00 PM while Wong was feeding a one-year-old dog weighing approximately 30 kg (66 lbs). After feeding, Wong attempted to guide the animal into a protective cage, but the dog resisted and attacked her for nearly a minute. Because the station was isolated and Wong was working alone, she was unable to defend herself or escape.

Emergency responders found Wong deceased at the scene with severe injuries to her head, jaw, neck, and arms. Hong Kong Police Assistant Regional Commander Chan noted that while seven dogs were at the station at the time, the other six were secured in separate cages and did not participate in the attack. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) will take the involved dog for observation.
