Hong Kong authorities investigate illegal human cadaver skin cosmetic treatment

Hong Kong health authorities and police are investigating the illegal sale and application of Elravie Re2O, a South Korean injectable aesthetic treatment produced from collagen derived from human cadaver skin. The product, developed by L&C Bio, is being marketed as a cellular regenerator but lacks sanitary registration in Hong Kong.

Investigations revealed that various clinics and beauty salons have been offering the treatment without medical supervision and without disclosing its human origin. Prices for the sessions have been reported to range from approximately 3,480 to 15,000 Hong Kong dollars. Recent enforcement operations have resulted in the seizure of about one hundred vials of regulated substances and the arrest of one woman.

Medical experts warn that the treatment poses significant biological risks, including the potential transmission of pathogens and adverse immunological reactions, as processing may not entirely eliminate original cellular material. Under local law, the sale of unregistered pharmaceuticals and the unauthorized use of human tissue are subject to strict regulations, with illegal sales potentially carrying prison sentences of up to two years.
