Hong Kong courts sentence tram driver and bus assault offender

Lee Yiu‑tung, a 49‑year‑old tram driver, abandoned his High Court appeal and began serving a four‑week jail term after being convicted of careless driving that caused a tram crash in Sai Wan on 15 August 2024, killing a three‑year‑old girl. The court noted his limited means and education, and he accepted responsibility for the incident.

William Wu, a 65‑year‑old repeat sex offender, was sentenced to four months in West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court for an indecent assault on a teenage girl on a double‑decker bus in June 2026. The assault was captured on video, and Wu had three prior sexual‑offence convictions. The court imposed the sentence despite his request for leniency and his willingness to undergo psychological treatment.
