Hong Kong Customs seizes cannabis at international airport

Hong Kong Customs has intercepted two separate drug trafficking attempts at Hong Kong International Airport involving passengers arriving from Bangkok, Thailand.

In one instance, a 31-year-old female passenger from Mainland China, traveling via Taiwan, was arrested after officers discovered approximately 7.5 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds concealed in her checked baggage. The seized drugs have an estimated market value of $1.5 million.

In a second case, customs officers intercepted a 33-year-old Malaysian woman and a 52-year-old Mainland Chinese man. Officers found approximately 8 kilograms and 1 kilogram of suspected cannabis buds in their respective checked luggage, totaling roughly 9 kilograms with an estimated market value of $1.8 million. Both individuals have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.

Customs officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid participating in drug trafficking for monetary gain, specifically warning against accepting requests to carry unknown items for others.
