Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Launch Purple Rain Natural Wine Brand

Gen Z entrepreneurs Anson Sik and Edson Bichon have founded Purple Rain Wine, a Hong Kong‑based importer that brings Chinese natural wines, primarily from Yunnan’s obscure vineyards, to the city. Their business model centres on storytelling, using filmmaking, graphic design and curated events to share the producers’ cultural narratives.

Purple Rain’s wines are now stocked at local outlets such as Leeder Quay and served in venues ranging from casual bars to Michelin‑starred restaurants like Feuille, with talks underway to supply the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. The founders note the difficulty of breaking into a market dominated by established importers and classic regions such as Bordeaux, but they persist with unconventional promotions, including calligraphy‑paired tastings and DJ‑driven events.

The venture highlights a growing interest in Chinese natural wines and aims to reshape Hong Kong’s wine scene by foregrounding the stories behind each bottle.
