Abby Choi murder trial begins in Hong Kong High Court
The murder trial for Hong Kong socialite and influencer Abby Choi began in the High Court, involving her ex-husband Alex Kwong, his father Kwong Kau, and his brother Anthony Kwong. The three defendants are accused of killing the 28-year-old in February 2023 and preventing the lawful burial of her body. If convicted of murder, they face mandatory life imprisonment.
The case stems from the discovery of Choi's dismembered remains in a village house in Tai Po. Police recovered body parts, including legs, a skull, and ribs, as well as tools such as an electric saw and a meat slicer. DNA testing confirmed the remains belonged to Choi. Investigators also searched a landfill for additional evidence.
The trial, presided over by Deputy Judge Brian Keith, is expected to last approximately 45 days. The court has imposed restrictions on the media, prohibiting the disclosure of the identities of Choi's four children and preventing reporting on proceedings before the jury is empanelled. The prosecution is expected to present its case at a later date.
