Hong Kong expands AI adoption in business and public services

Hong Kong is advancing its digital transformation through new artificial intelligence initiatives aimed at both the private sector and public services. The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has launched the ‘AI for All’ Inclusive Programme. Coordinated by the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau, this initiative focuses on promoting widespread AI adoption by providing training, practical application programmes, and talent development for SMEs, professionals, and underprivileged communities.

In the public sector, the government’s 1823 Contact Centre is integrating AI to enhance service efficiency. New features include real-time speech-to-text, automated case summaries, and data extraction to reduce administrative burdens on frontline staff. The implementation of an ‘AI Efficiency Enhancement Group’ aims to use visualization technology to identify trends and risks in public inquiries, supporting Hong Kong’s broader goals of developing a smart city and a digital government.
