Hong Kong flooding in Sha Tin and Tai Po due to monsoon and high tide

Flooding occurred in several low-lying areas of Sha Tin and Tai Po following the combined impact of a strong northeast monsoon and an astronomical high tide.

In Sha Tin, the cycle path near the Shing Mun River Yuen Wo Road playground was submerged by rising river waters, with depths estimated at over ten centimeters. Residents reported having to wade through water or alter their routes.

In Tai Po, a pedestrian tunnel was closed due to accumulated water, with warning signs posted to prevent entry. Data from the Hong Kong Observatory showed the water level at Tai Po Kau reached 3.16 meters at 10:26 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Observatory noted that the gale-force northeast monsoon affected the Guangdong coast, contributing to the elevated water levels. Weather conditions are expected to clear as the monsoon weakens.
