Hong Kong fundraiser raises ₹47 lakh for Indian domestic worker
A GoFundMe campaign launched by a Hong Kong content creator has raised over ₹47 lakh (approximately £3,688) to help her Indian domestic worker, Mariyam Shaikh, purchase a home in India.
Shaikh's history includes years of physical, mental, and economic abuse by the family that adopted her when she was five years old. According to her employer, Shaikh faced constant harassment and had much of her earnings seized. In addition to her past trauma, Shaikh is currently supporting a terminally ill husband and lacks a permanent residence.
The fundraiser, which aimed to provide stability and a safe haven, received widespread support from over 250 donors. The funds are intended to help Shaikh rebuild her life and secure a permanent home in her native country.
