Hong Kong health services and virus prevention focus for school reopening

As the new school year approaches in Hong Kong, health authorities and experts are emphasizing preventive measures to protect students from seasonal viruses and ensure overall well-being.

The Department of Health has introduced three key services for students: student health services, school dental care services, and the seasonal influenza vaccination outreach program. Parents can use school-specific QR codes to register for health and dental services online by September 14. Additionally, the ‘eHealth’ mobile app allows parents to submit electronic consent forms for influenza vaccinations, streamlining the process for school-based immunization.

Medical experts also warn about the risk of virus transmission through school uniforms and clothing. Common pathogens such as Norovirus, Influenza A and B, Enterovirus (which causes hand, foot, and mouth disease), and Adenovirus can persist on fabrics. Experts suggest using specialized laundry products capable of neutralizing these viruses to prevent cross-infection within households, especially as students return to crowded school environments.
