Hong Kong hosts green finance forum to boost regional cooperation

During Hong Kong Green Week, Bank of China (Hong Kong) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) co-hosted the 'Bank of China (Hong Kong) Green Forum 2026 and Southeast Asia Green Finance Best Practices Exchange.' The event brought together over 200 policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to discuss green finance innovation, low-carbon transitions, and regional cooperation between Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia.

Two major research reports were released during the forum: one focusing on Southeast Asian sustainable finance markets and Hong Kong's role, and another examining climate awareness and green finance preferences among Hong Kong citizens. Participants emphasized the importance of Hong Kong as a hub for connecting international capital with regional green projects.

Separately, Hong Kong Monetary Authority Chief Executive Eddie Yue highlighted the success of the 'Trade Data Interchange' (TDI). He noted that the platform has facilitated over 100,000 loan applications and reviews, involving an estimated total financing of over HKD 90 billion. Yue stated that such digital infrastructure helps financial institutions track supply chains and calculate carbon emissions, enabling more precise deployment of funds for sustainable investments.
