Hong Kong Housing Secretary visits transitional housing project

Hong Kong Secretary for Housing Ho Wing-yin recently revisited the Pak Oi Sing Ping Village transitional housing project in Sheung Shui to follow up on a family she met a year ago. The family, consisting of a mother and her young son, previously lived in a 70-square-foot subdivided unit with a monthly rent of 5,500 HKD.

Since moving to the transitional housing project, the mother reported a significant reduction in financial pressure and an improvement in living conditions. She noted that the cleaner environment and increased space have allowed her son to focus better on his studies, leading to improved academic performance. The project provides various community amenities, including free village buses, a community canteen, and food assistance through partnerships with organizations like ‘Food Angel’.

Ho emphasized that the government's housing strategy—ranging from addressing subdivided units and implementing simple housing policies to accelerating public housing construction and transitional housing projects—aims to provide stable living options for low-income citizens. She expressed gratitude to the legislature and various political parties for supporting these measures to ensure they effectively reach those in need.
