Hong Kong implements AI projects to streamline government services

Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po announced that an AI efficiency task force has facilitated 30 improvement projects across 13 government departments. Key initiatives include the Transport Department launching an automated vehicle license renewal system by year-end, which aims to reduce processing times from ten working days to just one.

To support workforce development, the government has allocated HK$50 million for a universal AI training program. This initiative aims to host over 200 activities in the next two years, benefiting approximately 50,000 people, including students and professionals. Additionally, the Employees Retraining Board will collaborate with major tech firms to launch AI courses in November.

Chan also noted the economic impact of AI, highlighting that high demand for AI-related electronics has contributed to Hong Kong's export growth. He mentioned that AI-related IPOs accounted for approximately 55% of Hong Kong's new stock listings between December and May.
