Hong Kong insurers launch diverse medical and VHIS insurance plans

Various insurance providers in Hong Kong are offering diverse medical and critical illness insurance products, including options under the government-recognized Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (VHIS).

Chubb has launched its ‘Every Care’ critical illness insurance series, designed to support healthy individuals, cancer survivors, and those with cardiovascular disease or diabetes. The series features flexible payout options and parity in premiums between Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Under the VHIS framework, several companies offer ‘Flexible Plans’ that exceed standard coverage. Bupa provides the HERO VHIS plan with annual limits ranging from HKD 5 million to 40 million. China Life (Overseas) offers the ‘Health Companion’ series, which includes a no-claim discount and coverage for unknown pre-existing conditions after 31 days. Chubb’s VHIS Flexible Plan extends coverage to outpatient renal dialysis and medical negligence. Cigna’s VHIS series includes an ‘Elite’ flexible plan with annual limits up to HKD 30 million for semi-private rooms, providing immediate coverage for unknown pre-existing conditions and congenital diseases after age 8.

All VHIS-recognized products allow policyholders to claim tax deductions in Hong Kong, with a cap of HKD 8,000 per insured person per tax year.
