Hong Kong launches new 2026 Silver Bond offering for seniors
The Hong Kong government announced a new issuance of its Silver Bond 2026 series, aimed at residents aged 60 and over. The initial issue size is HK$500 billion, with the possibility of expanding to HK$550 billion depending on subscription demand. Each bond unit costs HK$10,000 and carries a guaranteed minimum interest rate of 4.25 percent, with semi‑annual payouts over a three‑year term linked to local inflation.
The subscription window runs from 9 a.m. on 21 August to 2 p.m. on 4 September, after which results are expected on 11 September and the bonds will be issued on 15 September. Eligible applicants must hold a valid Hong Kong identity card and have been born in 1967 or earlier. Investors can receive up to 100 units (HK$1 million) per person, and the bonds have no secondary market, allowing redemption at face value plus accrued interest before maturity.
