Hong Kong police arrest driver for dangerous driving with child on lap

Hong Kong police have arrested a 37-year-old female driver for suspected dangerous driving following the circulation of a social media video. The footage, recorded on August 21 at approximately 3:30 p.m. near Kin Shue House at Lei Muk Shue Estate, shows a woman operating an electric vehicle with cross-border registration plates while a young child is seated on her lap.

The New Territories South Regional Traffic Investigations Unit initiated the investigation after monitoring the video online. While no injuries were reported in the incident, the driver faces prosecution under Section 37 of the Road Traffic Ordinance.

Authorities reminded the public that dangerous driving is a serious offense that can result in a maximum fine of $25,000, up to three years of imprisonment, and a minimum six-month driving disqualification. Police also emphasized regulations regarding child restraints, noting that children under eight years old or shorter than 1.35 meters must use appropriate restraint devices.
