Hong Kong police officer charged in fatal Wan Chai collision

An off-duty police officer attached to the Airport District has been charged with dangerous driving causing death following a fatal collision in Wan Chai.

The incident occurred on Christmas night last year at the junction of Morrison Hill Road, involving two private vehicles. A 74-year-old driver collided with a vehicle operated by a 30-year-old male motorist. A 71-year-old female passenger from the first vehicle was admitted to Eastern Hospital after feeling unwell; she passed away on January 1.

Following an investigation by the Island Regional Traffic Special Investigation Team, the officer was arrested nearly six months after the accident. Legal proceedings were previously held at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts in June and have been adjourned until August 17 for further mention. The police force stated that unlawful conduct by personnel will not be tolerated.
