Abby Choi murder trial: Prosecutors cite money as motive

The trial of the three men accused of murdering Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi has progressed, with prosecutors identifying financial disputes as the “root cause” of the 2023 killing and dismemberment.

Defendants Alex Kwong, his brother Anthony Kwong, and their father Kwong Kau have all pleaded not guilty to murder. However, Alex and Anthony have pleaded guilty to charges of preventing a lawful burial. During court proceedings, forensic evidence revealed that parts of Choi’s body, including head tissue, were discovered in cooking pots at a residence in Lung Mei Village. Toxicology reports indicated no signs of drugs, sleeping pills, or poisoning in the samples collected.

Choi’s mother testified that the victim had provided significant financial support to the Kwong family, including a HK$60 million apartment held in Kwong Kau’s name. She alleged that while Choi supported the family, the Kwongs never contributed financially to her children’s upbringing. Prosecutors argued that tensions arose when Choi attempted to sell the luxury apartment, triggering the family plot.
