Hong Kong sees rise in growth company listings
Hong Kong has experienced an increase in the listing of growth companies, particularly within the biotechnology and artificial intelligence sectors. Julia Leung, CEO of the Securities and Futures Commission, noted that the proportion of such firms has risen to 30% from 10% in 2023.
Leung attributed this trend to proactive market reforms and improved infrastructure for the clearing and settlement of deals. These reforms aim to attract companies that have not yet achieved sustained profitability but possess strong growth potential. She emphasized that while the market is currently buoyant, the regulator must prioritize quality over speed to ensure investor protection.
Additionally, Hong Kong is strengthening capital market connectivity with Malaysia. A ‘single submission arrangement’ was launched between the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and the Securities Commission Malaysia, allowing companies seeking to list in both jurisdictions to submit a single application and set of documents.
