Hung Kin-wah, Hong Kong singer, dies at 49 after cancer battle

Hong Kong singer Hung Kin-wah passed away on September 26 at the age of 49 after a decade-long battle with cancer. Known for his 1990s hit ‘I Am Heartbroken, You Are Sad’ and his resemblance to actor Takeshi Kaneshiro, Hung was a protégé of the late music mentor Tai Sze-tung.

Colleagues and friends expressed deep sorrow over his passing. Fellow singer and longtime friend Fan Chun-fung, who studied under the same mentor, shared emotional memories of their friendship. TVB host Polly薛家燕 (Suet Ka-yin) recalled his professional and vibrant appearance during his 2020 appearance on the program ‘Pop Classics 50 Years.’

Despite his illness, Hung maintained a strong passion for music. During his 2020 television appearance, he had reportedly lost 30 pounds to ensure a healthy stage presence, masking the severity of his condition from the public at the time.
