Hong Kong and Malaysia strengthen business and media ties

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) hosted the ‘Think Business, Think Hong Kong’ symposium in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together approximately 1,600 business and government leaders from Hong Kong and Malaysia. The event aimed to strengthen regional economic ties, offering Malaysian companies access to capital, professional services, and pathways into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the wider Chinese mainland.

Significant cooperation agreements were reached during the event. In the media sector, Hong Kong outlets including The Standard and TVB International signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Malaysian entities such as Astro and TM to collaborate on intellectual property development, content exchange, and digital advertising. Additionally, ten MoUs were signed to enhance professional services and business networking.

On the financial front, officials noted that a simplified dual initial public offering (IPO) listing framework between Malaysia and Hong Kong is expected to take place in September 2026, following agreements between the Securities Commission Malaysia and Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission.
