Hong Kong to host inaugural WXV women's rugby challenger and new fencing Grand Prix

Hong Kong will host the inaugural WXV Global Series Challenger for women’s rugby from 13 to 26 September 2026 at the Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground. Six nations – Brazil, Fiji, Hong Kong China, the Netherlands, Samoa and Spain – will compete in three weekends of matches, with Mitsubishi Electric serving as presenting partner. World Rugby’s chief of women’s rugby, Sally Horrox, said the tournament provides "even more international competition" and marks a significant occasion for Hong Kong’s women’s 15s team.

The city has also been awarded a spot on the International Fencing Federation’s elite Grand Prix circuit, replacing Shanghai. An inaugural event is planned for May at AsiaWorld‑Expo. FIE vice‑president Donald Anthony praised Hong Kong’s crowd support and organization, noting the city could become a benchmark for future Grand Prix hosts.
