Hong Kong to host WXV Global Series Challenger women's rugby tournament

The 2026 WXV Global Series Challenger is set to begin at the Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground in Hong Kong, marking the first time the city will host this international women's rugby event. Six national teams—Fiji, Hong Kong China, the Netherlands, Samoa, Spain, and Brazil—will compete over three weeks in a tournament that serves as a pathway for Rugby World Cup qualification.

The competition features nine international matches scheduled across three weekends. The opening round on September 13 will see Spain face Fiji, while Hong Kong China takes on Brazil and the Netherlands plays Samoa. Subsequent match days will continue the round-robin format through September 26.

As the host, Hong Kong China aims to utilize its home advantage and speed-based playing style. The tournament also highlights the diverse styles of the participating nations, such as Fiji's renowned rapid-passing offense. Captains from all six participating teams gathered at Victoria Harbour for a ceremonial photoshoot to launch the event.
