Hong Kong transport sees record cross‑border travel as rail and parking services expand

Hong Kong’s high‑speed rail reported more than 16 million passengers in the first half of the year, a new all‑time high since its 2018 launch. Daily ridership averaged over 92,000, with a single‑day peak of about 150,000 passengers during the Easter‑Qingming holidays. At the West Kowloon station, a newly upgraded business lounge now offers roughly 200 seats, faster Wi‑Fi and other amenities, while additional short‑haul services to mainland stations have increased train frequency.

At the same time, the Civil Aviation Department introduced the "Easy Parking" programme, allowing eligible Guangdong and Macau private‑car drivers to cross the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge, park at an automated facility and transfer to public transport. Since its launch, the related "Easy Parking Fly" service has logged 5,000 vehicle trips and 12,000 registered drivers, aiming to stimulate tourism and dining spend in Hong Kong.

Both initiatives are intended to strengthen the transport link between Hong Kong and the mainland, improve passenger convenience and support the city’s role as a regional travel hub.
