Hong Kong trials reservation system for Sai Kung coastal trail

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department is launching a trial real-name reservation system for the Po Pin Chau section of the High Island Geo Trail in Sai Kung. The trial will run on weekends, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, and throughout the National Day Golden Week, beginning September 5.

To manage crowds and ensure safety, the system will cap daily visitors at 2,000, divided into two-hour slots with a maximum of 500 people per session. Reservations must be made in advance via the Klook platform using real names, telephone numbers, and identity documents.

Legislative Councillor Chris Ip expressed support for the measure to regulate visitor flow, suggesting that a deposit or fee system could be considered if no-shows become an issue. District Councillor Chris Cheung Mei-hung noted the importance of reserving quotas for local residents and considering the impact on nearby villages like Pak Lap.
