Hong Kong unveils First Five-Year Plan for economic development
Chief Executive John Lee has unveiled the First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (2026-2030). The plan aims to bolster core industries and maintain long-term economic stability by strengthening Hong Kong’s status as an international financial, maritime, trade, and aviation hub.
Key initiatives include deepening the development of global offshore Renminbi business, expanding capital markets, and developing an international asset and wealth management center. The plan also highlights the creation of a commodity trading ecosystem, using gold as an entry point through the development of clearing, storage, and supply infrastructure.
The roadmap emphasizes economic integration and alignment with national objectives, such as the development of the Northern Metropolis. The plan includes 22 indicators, with five containing binding targets and 17 serving as anticipatory goals, including specific objectives for environmental protection.
