Hong Kong water pipe leaks disrupt supply to thousands of residents

On June 28, two separate water pipe failures occurred in Hong Kong. In Tuen Mun, a 600‑mm diameter pipe supplying the estates of Yifeng Garden, Xianfa Estate, Hengshun Garden, Guanfeng Garden and a government secondary school burst, affecting roughly 7,000 residents. The Water Supplies Department dispatched crews, installed fifteen temporary water tanks and arranged bottled‑water distribution, planning to halt supply after the evening peak and complete repairs by noon the following day.

Later that morning in Cheung Hing Estate on Tsing Yi, construction work unintentionally ruptured an underground water pipe, sending a six‑metre water jet and cutting water to two residential blocks and a shopping centre. Emergency response teams from the Water Supplies Department, the Gas Company and the Housing Authority provided water trucks and bottled water, and restored supply by the evening of the same day.
