Hong Kong water police rescue windsurfer near Lung Kwu Tan

Hong Kong water police successfully rescued a windsurfing enthusiast near Lung Kwu Tan after sudden weather changes and strong gusts blew the individual approximately five nautical miles offshore toward the airport's third runway.

The rescue was completed in roughly 10 minutes due to the victim's ability to provide precise location data. Police officials noted that the individual's calm demeanor and use of a positioning device significantly increased search efficiency, preventing the victim from being pushed against rocks as darkness approached.

Authorities are using the incident to promote the ‘HKSOS’ emergency mobile application. They emphasize that the app allows users to set itineraries and send SOS signals even in areas with poor signal coverage. Police also highlighted a recent separate rescue in Ma Wan, where they saved four sea anglers from a capsized sampan, reminding the public not to underestimate maritime risks or overestimate personal abilities in rough seas.
