Hong Myung‑bo to appear at parliamentary hearing as police probe coach appointment
Former South Korean national team coach Hong Myung‑bo publicly apologised for the team's failure to advance from the 2026 North‑America World Cup group stage, stating that “all responsibility lies with me.” He announced his intention to attend a parliamentary hearing of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee on 22 May to answer questions about the result.
Separately, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has broadened its investigation into the process that led to Hong’s selection as head coach. The probe now includes the Korean Football Association’s former chairman and the former Strengthening Committee that recommended candidates, examining whether procedural irregularities or undue influence occurred during the appointment.
