Hongqi deactivates driver assistance systems on EH7 and EHS7 models
Chinese automaker Hongqi is deactivating advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) on its EH7 and EHS7 models after failing to resolve critical software issues. The decision follows reports of “phantom braking,” where vehicles brake unexpectedly and without cause during operation.
In Denmark, the importer Wismo Group has launched a factory campaign to permanently disable six advanced features, including automatic parking, rear automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assistance. The adaptive cruise control will be downgraded to a standard cruise control system. To compensate owners for the loss of these features, the importer is offering 50,000 Danish kroner per vehicle, provided the work is completed by January 31, 2027.
A similar rollout is planned for Norway. The Norwegian importer confirmed that customers will be contacted in November regarding compensation for the loss of promised technological features. The manufacturer, FAW, has concluded that a software update capable of fixing the errors while meeting European type-approval requirements is not feasible.
