Hongqi's $1.6 M Golden Sunflower Guoli Targets Rolls‑Royce Luxury Market
Chinese premium automotive brand Hongqi, part of FAW Group, unveiled the ultra‑luxury Golden Sunflower Guoli sedan at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. The model is priced around US$1.6 million (≈28.8 billion rupiah) and stresses cultural artistry rather than performance. Its interior features hand‑embroidered silk work that took over 1,200 hours, using about 100 silk threads thinner than human hair to create a cloud‑like ceiling effect. FAW chairman Qiu Xiandong described the car as a work of art that reflects Chinese cultural confidence.
In its first year, the Golden Sunflower line sold roughly 1,400 units, outpacing Rolls‑Royce’s expected 700 registrations in China for 2025. Hongqi is positioning the model to directly challenge European luxury marques such as Rolls‑Royce and Bentley and is preparing to expand into overseas markets, including Malaysia and Russia.
