Honiara completes 14 new bus shelters in Solomon Islands
Fourteen new bus shelters have been completed along the Mendana Avenue and Tandai road corridors in Honiara. The facilities are located along both landward and seaside sections of these corridors to improve public transport access and road safety for commuters, pedestrians, and drivers.
The construction was carried out by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) as part of the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP). These shelters are designed to provide protection from sunlight and heavy rain while establishing designated pick-up and drop-off locations for public transport services.
Mike Qaqara, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, stated that the project reflects the government's commitment to infrastructure that meets the daily needs of the community. An additional shelter is proposed for the area opposite the Coral Sea Resort, pending land availability and final arrangements.
