Honokurashi no Niwa reaches 100,000 sales in Japan

The life simulation gameHonokurashi no Niwa’, released by Nippon Ichi Software on July 30, 2026, has achieved significant commercial success, surpassing 100,000 domestic sales within days of its launch. The title has gained attention for its unique blend of peaceful rural life simulation and unsettling folk horror set in the village of Higatsugatsu.

Players control a young child tasked with managing a dilapidated house and garden while navigating strict village rules, such as a curfew after 11:00 PM and prohibitions against leaving the village or responding to voices from the mountains. The gameplay loop alternates between daytime agricultural activities—including farming over 80 types of crops, livestock care, and foraging—and nighttime exploration where players must face supernatural entities.

Critics and players have noted the high level of immersion provided by the game’s graphics and environmental sounds. The protagonist’s survival mechanics, which involve managing stamina through food and even foraging for wild plants to sustain long hours of labor, have also become a point of discussion among the community.
