Croatia weather: Severe storms and temperature drops expected
Croatia is experiencing a significant weather shift as autumn transitions into colder, more unstable conditions. The State Hydrometeorological Service (DHMZ) has issued orange warnings for several regions, including the Lika-Senj and Zadar counties, due to strong and potentially stormy bura winds. In the Velebit channel, wind gusts could reach up to 139 kilometers per hour, posing risks to maritime traffic and potentially causing power outages or structural damage.
Temperatures are dropping sharply across the country. While coastal areas may see highs between 11 and 16 degrees Celsius, inland regions will experience much colder conditions, with morning temperatures near 4 degrees Celsius. In higher elevations above 800 meters, rain is expected to turn into sleet or snow, with early snowfall already recorded in areas such as Zavižan, Lika, and Gorski Kotar.
Weather patterns are being driven by the meeting of two large systems: an anticyclone over European land and a cyclone located south of Italy in the Mediterranean. While the instability is expected to persist through the beginning of the week, a gradual improvement with more sun and rising temperatures is forecasted starting Thursday.
