Hood Warfare 2 gains Steam popularity amid controversy
Hood Warfare 2, an independent multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Trapstar Games, has gained significant traction following its release on Steam on October 8. Built using Unreal Engine 5, the game features a setting centered on rival gangs competing for control of Chicago.
The title has seen a notable surge in player engagement, reaching a peak of over 11,000 players within a 24-hour period, a substantial increase compared to its predecessor. The game offers six distinct modes, including Turf War, GangBang (team deathmatch), Chaos (free-for-all), Hit a Lick (capture the flag), Destroy the Block (bomb defusal), and Chain Snatch (kill confirmed style).
While the game has achieved popularity due to its low price point and gameplay mechanics reminiscent of classic Call of Duty titles, it has also faced criticism. Some players and commentators have raised concerns regarding its depiction of street culture and the use of exaggerated stereotypes related to Black communities in Chicago.
