Hoogeveen hosts opening of Drenthe Rainbow Week

The municipality of Hoogeveen is hosting the official opening of the Drenthe Rainbow Week on Monday, October 19. As the host municipality, Hoogeveen is welcoming officials, social organizations, and residents from across the province to promote inclusion, equality, and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community.

The opening ceremony features several notable attendees, including Alderman Mark Tuit, National Coordinator against Discrimination and Racism Rabin Baldewsingh, and Drenthe Rainbow Ambassador Henk Nijmeijer. A central highlight of the event is the collective raising of the rainbow flag.

Throughout the week, various activities are scheduled, including a lecture by Henk Nijmeijer, a public art piece by artist Geert Oldebeuving, and community gatherings organized by SWW. Hoogeveen has been an official rainbow municipality since 2017, aiming to foster a society where all individuals can participate fully and develop their talents.
